BEHIND THE LAB

Dr. Kyle Y. Liu is an associate professor of the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), one of the prestigious higher education institutes in Taiwan (since 1946).  He is an inorganic chemist as well as a nanoscience scientist, specialized in the synthesis and characterizations of quantum-confined semiconductors having unique optical, electrical, magnetic and thermoelectric properties. His research covers a board topics of materials, including self-assemblies of metal chalcogenides via catalyst-direct and template-growth for low band-gap materials, and magic-sized nanoclusters. His current teaching duty is assigned to general chemistry (Tuesday) and nanomaterials laboratory (Friday) for physics freshman  and chemistry senior and in the campus.

He is a member of the American Chemical Society (St. Louis section). Dr. Liu has served reviewers for Chem. Mater. and JACS over the past six years. He has been co-authored in 15 research papers of premier international journals, including JACS, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Nano. Lett., Chem. Mater., Inorg. Chem., Langmuir, Chem. Eur. J. and others. He also collaborates with productive research groups at National Taiwan University (NTU), National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) and Washington University in St. Louis(Wash. U.) for fundamental studies and characterizations.

Dr. Liu received a B.S. degree from NTNU (2000, chemistry with honor), NTU (2002, chemistry with honor) and a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from Wash. U. (2010). He continued to conduct several postdoctoral projects at the OSU and NTU prior to joining NTNU in 2014.
